Biodiversity Conservation Project - Cirsium Byzantinum Plant

In line with our sustainability approach, during the sixth year of the “Biodiversity Conservation Project” we are carrying out in collaboration with Kocaeli University, we reintroduced the endangered endemic species Hoş Kangal (Cirsium byzantinum) into the wild.

As an endemic species unique to Türkiye, the Hoş Kangal is among the plants that require protection due to its limited distribution area and the shrinking of its natural habitat.

Following the Blue Star, Sea Daffodil, Riva Mullein and Kilyos Button, the Cirsium byzantinum —the fifth species to be reintroduced into its natural cycle—was planted in the Ballıkayalar Nature Park in Gebze with the support of the Kocaeli Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks.

The Biodiversity Conservation Project, which grows more comprehensive with each new species, stands out as a reflection of Assan Alüminyum’s holistic approach to sustainability—one that aims to produce tangible results not only in production processes but also in the protection of natural life.
